GLOSSARY · CONTRACTS & MONEY

What is Front Month?

The front month is the nearest-to-expire contract with the most trading volume.

Most day traders trade the front month because it has the tightest spreads and deepest liquidity. After rollover, the next contract becomes the front month.

EXAMPLE

In October 2026 the ES front month is December (ESZ6).
