GLOSSARY · CONTRACTS & MONEY

What is Notional Value?

Notional value is the full market value a futures contract controls.

Notional value = current price × contract multiplier. It tells you your true market exposure, which is far larger than the margin you post.

EXAMPLE

At an S&P 500 level of 5,000, one ES contract (×$50) has a notional value of $250,000. One MES (×$5) is $25,000.
