GLOSSARY · MARKET STRUCTURE

What is Gap Fill?

A gap fill is when price returns to the prior session's close after opening above or below it.

If the market opens away from the previous day's close, that space is a gap. Many gaps get filled the same day, especially small ones, which makes the prior close a common target.

EXAMPLE

ES closed at 5,000 and opens RTH at 5,015. A move back down to 5,000 fills the gap.
