GLOSSARY · MARKET STRUCTURE

What is Opening Range?

The opening range is the high and low set in the first minutes after the market opens.

Traders commonly use the first 5, 15 or 30 minutes after the 9:30 am ET open. A break and hold outside that range often signals the day's direction — the basis of the Opening Range Breakout (ORB) setup.

EXAMPLE

If ES trades between 5,010 and 5,020 from 9:30 to 9:45, a 15-minute candle closing above 5,020 is an ORB long trigger.
